New York Gang LIfe
At a young age, Capone was involved with multiple gangs, two of which included the Junior Forty Thieves and the Bowery Boys. He then joined the Brooklyn Rippers moving to the Five Points Gang in Lower Manhattan. While living in Lower Manhattan, Capone was employed and was mentored by the racketeer, Frank Yale. Under Frank Yale, Al Capone worked as a bartender at the Harvard Inn, a dance hall and saloon.
While a member of the Five Points Gang, Capone was given the nickname "Scarface". He was given this name because while working the entrance to a Brooklyn night club, Capone unconsciously insulted a woman. Al Capone was attacked by the woman's brother, who slashed the left side of his face three times, leaving large scars, hence- "Scarface". Ashamed of the scars, Capone lied saying the scars were simply war wounds. Ironically, after apologizing to the woman's brother (Frank Gallucio), Al Capone hired him as his personal body guard. Moving on, Capone later moved to Chicago, Illinois.
