St. Valentine's Day Massacre
The 1929 St. Valentines's Day Massacre was a killing supposedly planned and arranged by Al Capone himself. Preparing for the massacre, members of Capone's gang rented out apartments across from the garage of SMC Cartage Company in Lincoln Park, North Chicago. These stalkers were set up in order to track the actions and movements of the targets. On Valentine's Day, Tuesday, February 14, 1929, gunmen dressed as policemen and strolled into the garage. They then lined up 7 potential victims against a wall with ease. Men with machine guns were then called in to begin the massacre. The 7 victims were shot multiple times with machine guns as well as shot guns and killed. It is believed that the St. Valentine's Day Massacre was an action of fighting back against the North Side gang. Although Al Capone's total involvement is up for debate, this act completely ruined his reputation.
